Display: Samsung Sharper, iPhone Brighter
On paper, Samsung wins. The S26 Ultra’s QHD+ 3120x1440 panel has sharper text and higher pixel density at 498 ppi vs iPhone’s 460 ppi. Samsung also offers adjustable resolution + better anti-reflective coating.
But iPhone takes it back on calibration and real-world brightness. The 17 Pro Max hits 3000 nits peak and reviewers say it has better color accuracy out the box.
Performance: Apple Still Leads Single-Core
The A19 Pro keeps Apple’s lead in single-core CPU performance. That means apps open faster and iOS feels snappier day-to-day.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 closes the gap on multi-core and gaming, plus it’s more power-efficient. For gaming + AI tasks, Samsung is “excellent” but Apple still edges it for responsiveness.
Camera: Megapixels vs Consistency
Samsung S26 Ultra: The 200MP main sensor + dual telephoto lenses give you unmatched zoom. 100x Space Zoom is still technically unmatched. If you love shooting the moon or wildlife, Samsung is king.
iPhone 17 Pro Max: Apple went all-in on 48MP across all 3 lenses. Fewer megapixels, but better consistency and video. 4K 120fps ProRes makes it the creator’s choice. iPhone video still beats Samsung for stability, dynamic range, and color.
Front camera goes to Apple too: 18MP vs 12MP, plus Center Stage framing.
Battery + Charging: Trade-offs
iPhone 17 Pro Max has the bigger 5,088mAh battery and better endurance: 18-22 hours mixed use vs Samsung’s 17-20 hours. Real-world testing shows iPhone lasting ~17hrs 54min vs Samsung 16hrs 10min.
But Samsung charges way faster: 60W wired = 0-100% in ~65 minutes. iPhone 40W takes ~75 minutes. Both do 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging.
Software + Extras
iPhone: iOS 19, Face ID, MagSafe, tight Apple ecosystem integration. If you use MacBook, AirPods, Apple Watch - it just works.
Samsung: Android 16 + One UI 8 with 7 years of updates. Galaxy AI features: real-time translation, Note Assist for S Pen, Circle to Search. Built-in S Pen is the Ultra’s killer feature for notes and editing.
Price + Resale in South Africa
US pricing: iPhone 17 Pro Max starts $1,199, S26 Ultra starts $1,299. Samsung costs $100 more but gives you 16GB RAM and S Pen.
In SA, expect both around R25k-R30k depending on storage. iPhones still resell faster and hold value better locally. Samsung discounts are heavier at launch.
Verdict: Which Flagship Should You Buy?
Buy iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want:
1. Best video recording for content creation
2. iOS simplicity + Apple ecosystem
3. Best battery life + resale value
4. Snappiest app performance
Buy Galaxy S26 Ultra if you want:
1. Sharpest QHD+ display + S Pen
2. 200MP camera + 100x zoom flexibility
3. 60W fast charging

As tech reviewers say: “On paper, Samsung is better. When it comes to calibration and brightness, iPhone is better.” In 2026 there’s no wrong answer - just ecosystem vs specs.
